Here is a little knife I like to call Micro Fighter.   The blade is made of 11,520 layers of 1084 and 15N20 in a complex radial mosaic pattern.   The blade is about 5″ long, I will ad pictures of the knifes progress as I work on it.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Here is the blade rough ground.

Here I am softening the tang and ricasso.

This is a picture of the heat colors from softening the tang and ricasso.

Here I’ve taken a Norton India sharpening stone and used it to get the convex edge perfectly flat, especially near the ricasso where it is hard to get it flat with a slack belt on the grinder.   I also used the stone to flatten the clip which is also hard to get flat on the grinder.

Here is the blade, hand sanded.

Here I did a quick etch to see what the pattern would look like.   The reason I am not etching the blade all the way at this point is because I don’t want to worry about scratching the blade wile I’m working on the rest of the knife.   The pattern came out great!

Here are some of the pieces going together.

Here the three piece furrule is together.

Here is the finished knife, the handle is made out of Redwood Burl and the blade is made of 5160.   It also has stainless steel and brass fittings.

Below is a picture of my handle jig that I made to press the guard on tight wile the epoxy is drying on the guard. I should have this knife done in about two days, it’s going slow because I’ve been working with a couple orders. The handle slabs are made out of Redwood Burl with stainless steel fittings, the Ferrule has a brass spacer in between two pieces of stainless steel.
